Your move, start to finish — no surprises.
One coordinator. One price, in writing, before we load. Our own truck and our own crew at both ends. Here's exactly what happens, step by step.
What actually happens
Most people have never done an interstate move before, and the not-knowing is the worst part. So here is the whole thing, with nothing left out.
Tell us about your move
Four questions, about a minute. That is enough for us to price most moves — you are not waiting on a home visit to find out what yours costs.
Your coordinator calls you
One real person — not a ticket queue. They go through what you're bringing and give you your price.
Your price goes in writing
A binding estimate you sign before anything is loaded. That number is the number you pay.
Our truck, our crew
The same company you booked shows up. Not a stranger who bought your move from a broker.
Track it the whole way
Live status updates in transit, so you're never left wondering where your things are.
We unload and you're home
Furniture reassembled, blankets off, boxes in the rooms you want them. Need a gap between homes? A month of storage is included.
Three ways to show us what you're moving
Before your price is locked in, we go through your inventory together. You pick how — and none of them cost you anything.
We visit your home
The most accurate option. Best if you have a big house, a lot of specialty items, or you would simply rather show someone in person.
Video call
Fast and reliable. Walk us through your rooms on camera whenever it suits you — no cleaning up first.
Send photos
The quickest option. Snap your rooms and upload them when you have a minute.
Four things you will never get from us
Everything on this list is normal in the moving industry. That is exactly why we put it in writing.
A price that changes on move day
Your signed estimate is binding. If you add items at pickup we re-quote and re-sign with you first — nothing goes on the truck without your say.
A stranger at your door
We don't resell your move. The crew that loads you in California works for the same company that unloads you.
Fees you find out about at delivery
Packing, materials, crating, stairs and long carries are quoted up front. Nothing is held back to be discovered later.
A home visit you didn't ask for
We can come out and walk your home if you want that — on a large or unusual move it is the most accurate way to price. We just never make it the price of admission.
In every long-distance move
No line items to decode. These are part of the price your coordinator quotes you.
The questions everyone asks
Do I need a home visit to get a price?
Not to get a price. Tell us your route, your home size and your date, and a coordinator prices it with you over the phone. Before that price is locked in we review your inventory together, and you choose how: we come to your home, you walk us through on a video call, or you send photos. An on-site visit is the most accurate option and we are happy to do one — it is just never a condition of getting a number.
Can my price change on move day?
No. Your binding estimate is signed before we load. The only thing that changes it is you adding items at pickup — and in that case we reprice and re-sign with you before anything goes on the truck.
Are you a broker?
No. TapMove is a licensed motor carrier — USDOT 4445013, MC 1750835. We own the trucks and we train the crews. Your shipment never gets sold to another company.
How is a long-distance move priced?
By volume, not by distance. What you're bringing matters more than how far it goes, which is why two moves on the same route can cost very different amounts. Our published rates for each route are on the route pages.
How long will my move take?
It depends on the route and the season. Your coordinator gives you a delivery window in writing when you book, so it is agreed before you pay anything rather than estimated after.
Do you require a deposit?
A deposit secures your move date and it comes off your total — it is not an extra charge. Your coordinator tells you the exact amount before you pay anything, and you get it in writing.
What if my new place isn't ready yet?
One month of storage is included with every long-distance move, so a gap between your move-out and move-in dates doesn't cost you extra.
Still deciding? See published prices for your route.
Ready to get your price?
One call. One coordinator. Your price in writing before anything moves.
